Fundraising and Events
Why we need to raise money?
The club has an operating budget of over $100,000 per annum. With around 580 members that pay an annual subscription, this leaves about a $90,000 shortfall that needs to be raised through various endeavours. In addition, the club has invested $500,000 on renovations in the past couple of years. Fundraising events and donations to reduce debt and assist with operational costs are essential.
How we raise money?
Throughout the year the Jan Juc SLSC holds a number of events to raise funds for the club. The events range from the Danger 1000 ocean swim, a Golf Day held at the Torquay Golf Club, raffles with goods donated by members, our generous sponsors and supporters, counter meals, tin rattles, intersection collections and a whole raft of any other events and functions that raise money for the club.
Where does the money go?
Funds raised are all put back into the club in a variety of areas. These consist of purchase of essential slsc rescue equipment such as:
- Inshore Rescue Boats (IRB's)
- outboard motors
- medical equipment
As well as being allocated to areas such as:
- maintenance of existing slsc rescue equipment
- patrol uniforms
- building maintenance and/or expansion
- training / competition craft
