Training & Lifesaving Skills Development

At Jan Juc Surf Life Saving Club, every volunteer lifesaver begins their journey by earning a recognised lifesaving award - developing the essential knowledge and practical skills needed to keep our beaches safe. From there, members can build on their competencies through a structured training pathway delivered by our qualified volunteer Trainers, Assessors and Facilitators (TAFs).

We proudly partner with Life Saving Victoria (LSV), a Registered Training Organisation (RTO 21799) regulated by the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA), to deliver nationally recognised courses and vocational qualifications.

Why Train with Jan Juc SLSC?

By gaining lifesaving qualifications, you can:

✔ Patrol Jan Juc Beach

✔ Support Nippers and Starfish Nippers

✔ Assist with event water safety

✔ Lead teams and mentor younger members

✔ Progress toward paid professional lifeguarding roles

TRAINING PATHWAYS AND AWARDS

Aquatic Rescue Awards

Develop core surf safety, rescue skills and patrol capability.

Health Awards

Equip yourself with advanced first aid and emergency care skills.

Powercraft Awards

Operate specialised lifesaving equipment in dynamic ocean environments.

Pathway to Professional Lifeguarding

Dedicated members can progress to the Gold Medallion - the highest lifesaving award, encompassing advanced fitness, rescue and leadership competencies. This qualification enables members to apply for paid Lifeguard positions with Life Saving Victoria.

Flexible Training Delivery

We offer multiple course formats (eLearning, blended and face-to-face), with all training meeting required assessment hours and safety standards.

Please note:

  • Some awards require prior qualifications, age or fitness levels
  • Courses follow a progressive pathway (e.g. SRC → Bronze → Patrol Captain)
  • Minimum face-to-face hours are mandatory for assessment

Our Volunteer Training Team

Our TAFs are dedicated members who give their time to educate, mentor and inspire the next generation of lifesavers. Their commitment ensures Jan Juc SLSC maintains a strong, skilled patrol presence on our beach.
