Develop the essential skills required to keep our beaches safe. These qualifications focus on surf awareness, rescue techniques, teamwork and patrol responsibilities. They are the foundation of frontline lifesaving and ensure members are prepared to respond to emergencies in dynamic coastal environments.
Ideal for younger members beginning their lifesaving journey, the SRC provides fundamental knowledge in surf awareness, basic first aid, CPR, rescue board skills and teamwork. SRC holders can assist on patrols under supervision, gaining real experience on the beach.
Bronze Medallion– Primary qualification for active patrolling members (15+ years)
The Bronze Medallion is the hallmark of a qualified lifesaver. Candidates train in advanced surf skills, tube and board rescues, CPR, first aid, radio use and patrol operations. This award enables members to patrol independently and take full responsibility for public safety on the beach.
This award focuses on effective communication during patrols and rescues. Participants learn to operate lifesaving radios, follow communication protocols, log incidents and support patrol teams through clear and efficient coordination - an essential skill for managing emergency responses.
Designed for experienced lifesavers ready to step into leadership, this award covers patrol planning, risk assessment, team leadership, conflict resolution and emergency management. Patrol Captains lead patrol teams, make critical decisions and ensure safe, professional service to the public.
Developing through these awards allows members to build capability, leadership and confidence - from their first rescue to managing full patrol operations.
